Description
This CD features Anders Eliassons Double Concerto and Sinfonia per archi, performed by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Johannes Gustavsson, with soloists Ulf Wallin (violin) and Roland P?ntinen (piano).
The Double Concerto opens with dense activity, featuring frenetic dialogue between the piano and orchestra. Hints of Prokofiev and Bart?k can be discerned, but the language is original. The lyrical central movement is shadowed by angst, leading to a final movement linked by a violin cadenza. Ulf Wallins cadenza is a highlight.
The Sinfonia for Strings is a nearly 40-minute work filled with high tension and angst. It features a contrapuntal web with varying density and dissonance, but maintains a predominantly legato articulation. Eliasson utilizes 20th-century harmonic practices, creating a singular vision with tension and release.
